[fa:p:a=72157600097427539,p=2,id=465897876,j=l,s=s,l=i]The Animal Kingdom is the largest, and newest of all the Disney parks and was the one I was looking forward to the most for using my camera because they have a safari tour with real animals. Unfortunately, this wasn’t my day. I had been battling a minor head cold for a while, and today it decided to rear its big ugly head and sapped me of energy and enjoyment. I brought my camera, but forgot to grab the batteries (doh, I blame the Dayquil for scrambling my mind). That day is a bit of a scramble to me, but I did have some fun on a few things.
Specifically the new ride, Expedition Everest kicks ass! It’s a roller coaster inside of a mountain that resembles Mt. Everest. I realize I’m kind of spoiling the ride a little bit, but I don’t know of anybody going to Disney World anytime soon, so allow me to explain how the ride goes. It climbs up and the first drop is relatively mundane, but you quickly run out of track and the ride train stops, overlooking the edge of the mountain. There are buzzards waiting to eat you, and a chilly wind even. Then, a little creak and the train falls backwards, inside of the mountain in complete darkness and does a couple spirals until you finally end up in a lit cave again held motionless while a silhouette of the yeti tears apart the track that you just arrived on, as he tears the train shakes and then falls back towards the track that was just being torn up, but through some Disney magic you go another way and drop out of the mountain and back up through a tight spiral. For a ride that doesn’t go upside down at all it is awesome [You forgot to mention the HUGE Yeti Character that the roller coaster almost drives into. The Yeti is enormous and very real-looking; right down to wet, nappy hair. The roller coaster rockets upwards toward the Yeti’s outstretched arms before dipping down at the last second. I went on this ride three times, btw – Keith].
We called it a day earlier than normal, we had planned on going to Downtown Disney after the park closed, but I felt horrible, and Meghann was feeling bad as well, so we went back to the hotel and I slept for about 10 hours.
