HD-DVD & Blu-Ray. In the end the battle between the two formats will conclude when dual-format players are readily available and studios start choosing whichever format is cheaper to manufacture.

But for now there is a battle, one which HD-DVD seems to have at least gotten a jump on. What evidence do I base this on? Its hardly scientific, but head over to Amazon and search for the regular DVD version of “Planet Earth”, or just click here.

As a quick side note… Blue Planet is an incredible series that takes you everywhere on earth, and its truly amazing to watch in HD.

Anyway, back on topic. The basis I have for my “HD-DVD is winning” argument is this, scroll down a little on the page and you’ll see the section that lists “What customers ultimately bought after viewing this item” and you’ll see that 7% of people ultimately bought the HD-DVD version, and 4% ultimately bought the Blu-Ray version.

Scientific, hell no… good enough for me? Of course.

That is all.

HD-DVD just announced that they surpassed 100,000 HD-DVD’s sold, but Blu-ray (thanks to the PS3) just announced that they surpassed 1,000,000 Blu-ray discs sold…

It will still be a few years before we find a winner, personally i think it will more then likely be a matter of who is more successful due to as you said the dual-format players.

Do you mean players? I’m honestly curious as to where you got your numbers from because from what I understood, those numbers are kept secret.

And I’m only discussing Movies here, so PS3 games shouldn’t be included in the sales number.

You’ve got apples and oranges from that first link. HD-DVD PLAYERS against Blu-Ray DISKS.

And the second article is only looking at a two week window where HD-DVD didn’t even release any new titles. Its not an argument thats going to make me take back my statement.

Statistics are easily twisted is all I’m getting at.

I’m not trying to change your statement, i was just pointing out that Sony announced that they have sold over a million Blu-ray movies. While HD-DVD has only sold 100,000 HD-DVD players. So that would mean that each person that owns an HD-DVD players has bought 10 HD-DVD’s…i they want to compare to sales of Blu-ray movies.

Dustin is correct. Last I checked (and I don’t feel like checking again right now) Bluray was outselling HD-DVD 2:1.
