Close to Home

Elk Grove, my current home, is generally a very nice place to live and not to disimalar from folsom near where I grew up, but after this weekend I’m realizing that Elk Grove is way closer to being a big city than I had first assumed.

The house and development I live in is like any other in a growing city, and I’ve quite enjoyed being within walking distance from many stores (including a Best Buy) and only a 10 min drive to anything I can imagine. I can actually have pizza delivered, and I see my Neighbors often. Elk Grove, and the Laguna area is a wonderfull place to live, especially at this point in my life.

Sunday though some of the benifits of living in a city were weighed and measured against the downfalls. The headline on the front page Monady read “1 Dies in Elk Grove Shooting Spree” after Aaron Dunn had a complete meltdown. In my opinion his actions are inexcusable, but the news reported that he cracked after his wife left him, he lost his job and was heavily into drugs. The worst part is that the man he killed, John Johnson, had a wife and 3 children and so much left to offer in this world.

This news hits really close to home with me because, frankly it was really close to my home. The graphic below from the Sacramento Bee shows basically what happend and where. Here’s the scary part, see w. Stockton Blvd? I freaking live on w. Stockton Blvd. I’ve walked to Mandangos, its not much more than a block away from me. The pictures I posted a few days ago of the sunset over the lake is at Zimbleman Park. This happend “In my Backyard” so to speak.

Deadly Rampage

As far as I know, nothing like this has happened in Elk Grove before, so its not like I’m going to be scared into never leaving my house, but it does make me open my eyes a little bit.
