I’m not dead I swear!

Man, I was really thinking that things would get easier once I was into summer and away from homework and other things of that nature. But NOOOO, everybody else thinks the same thing and I have been swamped with things to do.

Let’s see, a brief summary of the weeks since my last post.

Believe it or not, finals week (May 23 - 27) was my easiest week. I didn’t work except for Thursday and Friday, so I had the rest of the time to just relax and study (obviously at different times).

David “WarriorBob” turned 23, happy birthday to David :-)

[fa:p:a=72157600109355201,id=1405184391,j=l,s=s,l=p]I had a couple BBQ’s over memorial day weekend, and Kerry and I went for a drive on Mosquito Road, over a really cool suspension bridge called mosquito bridge. Click on the image for a bigger picture. This doesn’t really do it justice, because the road leading down to it on either side is incredibly steep, it drops down into this canyon just to cross the river.

I started a new schedule at work, I am now working 4 10 hour days (Monday - Thursday) and then I have Fridays off to go out to my clients to help them out when they need me.

The 4th and 5th of this month, I helped Mike move to Reno. He graduated with a degree in Human Resources Management, and got a job as a manager at the JC Penny distribution center in Reno. So now he’s living up there in a nice apartment, and he finally got his new car. A Mazda 3, nice car I must say.

The 11th was both my parents’ 22nd anniversary, and my youngest brother Chadd’s 18th birthday. Then the 12th was Kerry and Mine 1 year anniversary. So lots of celebrating ensued, although Kerry and I didn’t really do anything for ourselves until Monday evening. Kerry and I, along with Mike, Candice and Adam all went and visited Jen in her new apartment here in Folsom. We had a BBQ and did a little swimming. However, my parents got a new bed, and Chadd got a new desk and chair so there was LOTS of furniture moving going on as well. Quick little furniture shuffle list:

  • Parents got a new King Sized Sleep Number bed.
  • Parents Old bed goes to Keith
  • Keith’s Old bed goes in a dumpster (it was a waterbed)
  • With Parents new larger bed, there isn’t room for a chair that was in the room.
  • Chair moves downstairs into Theatre
  • Now there isn’t room for one of the couches in the theatre (don’t try to understand why we are removing seating in the theatre, it’s a mystery to me)
  • Couch must go back into my bedroom (it’s my couch). Thus, taking away room for my chair
  • My chair also comes downstairs to the theatre.
  • ALL the A/V Equipment gets disassembled and reworked as part of the move.
  • In order to make a little more room in the theatre, my dads desk (he shares the room as an office) is disassembled, rotated 90, and reassembled 3-4 feet closer to the wall.

It was really crazy, and Keith and I haven’t even finished reconnecting all the Audio/Visual Equipment. I put in a new patch box for the speakers, and the cable. I was making up some new patch cables too for the speakers, but Radio Shack didn’t have enough banana plugs for me to finish, so the back speakers aren’t working yet. Also, the bulb in the projector finally bit the dust. It isn’t actually dead yet, but the brightness level finally dropped below a usable limit. We got about 1400 hours out of it, I’m glad that My Dad is willing to buy a new one though, it costs almost $400.

Then yesterday at work I spent the whole day moving and building too. Actually it started at the beginning of the week. Our new Communications guy had the right connections to get us a true four post rack instead of the cheesy mock-up we had before, so that came on Friday and I put it together Monday, then Wednesday I went and picked up 3, 3KVA (that’s ~3000 Watts each). Each weighs nearly 100lbs (45Kg), so moving them in and out of my trunk was fun. Yesterday (Thursday) we moved our 6 full filling cabinets, and 2 flat files to make room to build a new office space. So I spent half the day doing that. Then after everybody had left, I shut down all the servers and related equipment, removed everything from the old rack, and re-installed it in the new rack. In all yesterday was a 14 hour work day :-P.

And that brings us up to speed with today, where I have spent the morning piddling away on the computer, and I am going to head out to meet Kerry for lunch, and do some shopping around for some new golf clubs in preparation for a charity golf tournament I am involved in tomorrow. I have a set of clubs, but they were given to me, and I believe that they are older than I am, and I feel that I play enough to justify a $150 - $200 set of cheap clubs with big faces ;-).
