A diet I can stand behind

Geoffrey McCaleb of IdiotAbroad.com has laid out a diet I totally agree with. I’ve tried to express this same idea to friends before, but Geoffrey wraps everything up much better than I can.

Last but not least! Always ask yourself, is this how they ate 50 years ago? 100?
Why is this one so important? Well, do you remember seeing so many obese people in pictures and paintings back in the day? No, of course not. Because those people didn’t eat chicken nuggets. Those people didn’t supersize. Those people couldn’t afford meat for every meal, so veg was a more important staple than it is now. I’m not trying to get all naturist on you, but you should really care about the kind of food you eat, and the way that food was brought to your table.

One thing I think he may have left out is the benifit of eating right goes way deeper than loosing weight, it can help you feel good and actually help you look better too. The saying “You are what you eat” is true, if you eat a lot of greasy foods your skin will be greasy. Eating healthy can clear up your complection noticiably.

The End

Tonight marks the unfortunate end of the longest relationship I’ve yet to have with any one person. As I was about to fall asleep Kerry gave me those dreaded words.

Kyle <pause> we have to talk …

[fa:p:a=72157600109355201,id=1406079636,j=l,s=o,l=p]I would be lying if I said it was totaly unexpected, but one is never really prepared or ready when it comes.

I have some other news to reports, but since its late and I’m not really in the mood I’ll summarize:

Holy Quantized Mechanics Batman

Well Math is a lost cause at this point, there is no way that I am going to pass it anymore, so I think its time to tuck and roll away from wasting time on it.

In all its almost a good thing because Physics is starting to blow me away. We spent today working on the math and theory of the “Particle in a Box” system, which is a simple idealized system that can be completely solved within quantum mechanics. Wikipedia describes the system better than I can:

It is the situation of a particle confined within a finite region of space (the box) by an infinite potential that exists at the walls of the box. The particle experiences no forces while inside the box, but is constrained by the walls to remain in the box. This is similar to the situation of a gas confined in a container. …

As we shall see, the solution of the Schrödinger equation for the particle in a box problem reveals some decidedly quantum behavior of the particle that agrees with observation but contrasts sharply with the predictions of classical mechanics. This is a particularly useful illustration because this behavior is not “forced” on the system, it arises naturally from the initial conditions. It neatly demonstrates that quantum behaviour is a natural outcome of any wave-like system, contrary to the common concept of a “quantum leap” where the behavior is almost magical.

Easily the most mind-boggling feature of this model, is that experimentally and mathematically, if you placed a particle in the box, there is a chance that it can escape the box without having sufficient energy to escape though any classical means.

New Client!

Haha! I don’t know how many of you know this, but I have my own little business that I do on the side managing small business Networks. Its pretty fun to be able to see how other people do things, and help them get done what needs to be done. Anyway, today I picked up my 4th client, Elite Power.

Its kind of funny how a word of mouth Company like mine spreads. I started with two clients that actually weren’t businesses, just personal users who needed some work done on their computers, basically a virus and spyware enema. Then when the engineer at the company I work for moved to a new firm he recommended me to his boss and that was client #3. Now with Elite I actually got connected with because my boss sent me over to their office as a favor from my company (so I got paid by EDC, not my own billing) and they felt I could help them out so they’ve asked me to give them a hand.

Now the only problem is as soon as school is out I’ll be back to 40 hour weeks at my regular job, so I think I’m going to have to talk with my boss about working 4-10 hour days and taking one day off to meet with my clients. I don’t expect this should be a problem, as I’ve already discussed something similar with him before and he is fine with it.

Anyway, its pretty exciting to actually BE a growing company. Just thought I would share. B)

Death by Stupidity

Yeah, so I just got out of my physics class and I must say there are some people in this world who just need to learn to shutup. There are 3 people in my physics class that have made themselves specticles in the class, mostly because they are constantly making statements (most of the time either wrong, or obvious). Our first boob is not actually all that dumb, quite frankly he’s probably smarter than me (not saying much though). However he takes up almost a quarter of our lecture time every day by asking things on huge tangents to the subject. Granted they are related in some way and perhaps to him they help better his understanding but I dont care if magnetic flux relates to how the auto industry is dealing with EV cars … it just doens’t matter to me.

Our second ignoramus (who appropriatly just walked into the math lab where I’m writing this to talk to boob #1) generally keeps quiet, but when he does talk things are usually wrong. Today he piped up and gave an explination as to why something was happening and the professor asked somthing along the lines of “do you agree with that” to the class and the guy behind me spoke what was on all our minds, “I wouldn’t trust what he says even if I knew it was right”.

An the all time mental defective in the class is Chris, who seems to be some bastard combination of the first two, he never shuts up and is always wrong. Case in point, we were discussing the conversion from AC current to DC current and somehow got on the subject of a car’s alternator generating DC (probably thanks to boob #1) and Chris rases his and and out comes: “Isn’t it the catalitic converter, my chemisty teacher was talking about that”, at that instant every single person in the class’ jaw droped to the floor. Mind this is a class of Engineering students, and at least 99% of us know what a catalitic converter (nothing to do with the electrical system in a car).

Today we had another example, Boob and Ignoramus got us to discussing what might happen if you had an inductor, inductor ciruit (relating to LC circuits for those of you who are in the know). And the professor was a little stumped as to how to word his answer to make it make sense and Chirs pipes in “I can explain it better”

Most of us laughed to ourselves and the professor even totatly ignored him and just continued on teaching.

I’m thinking that moments like these are likely to occur again, I’ll be sure to post them here for all to laugh at.
