I’ve canceled many services in my life. By far the worst experience I’ve ever had was with AOL, but Rhapsody came in a close second. I despise companies that force you to call them to cancel something, and I particularly despise having to tell an operator that I do not want the service over and over before they finally cancel anything.
Recently (IE, yesterday), I wanted to cancel Amazon Prime membership, for two reasons. One, I’m out of a job and two, I didn’t use it enough after Christmas to make it cost-effective. So i log into my account on Amazon, find the link that says “Amazon Prime” and expect to find a phone number or something. Instead, there is a button/link that says “Cancel my subscription”. Its not even hidden!
I go through two steps, click “Cancel My subscription”, and then click “yes, I’m sure”. I get a thank you screen and I’m done. Whew, that was easy!
So today I’m going through my emails, and I see two from Amazon. The first (date wise) has a subject of “Amazon Prime Membership Cancellation Notice”, this is good. The second says “Your Amazon Inquiry”. The first thought that popped into my head was “Fuck, I knew it was to easy”. Low and behold though, this was what the email said:
Hello from Amazon.com.
Your Amazon Prime membership has been cancelled, per your request.
Our records indicate that you haven’t used your Amazon Prime membership benefits, so I’ve requested a full refund of $79 for the membership fee. The refund should be processed within the next 2-3 business days and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing statement.
Please know that we value your business, and we hope to see you again soon at Amazon.com.
Amazon… you just made my day.
